The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation hosts two International Opens in New York City each year, the IBJJF New York Spring Open and the IBJJF New York Summer Open. Over the past several years the tournament registration has closed early due to reaching the maximum allowed number of competitors. When full capacity is met you know as a competitor you will have a pretty substantial division, making your eventual success that much more gratifying. This year Team Dave Trader Jiu-Jitsu sent competitors, Michelle Welti, Lindsey Siscak, Chris Wilson, and Ricardo Mungia, to the Big Apple to compete in the 2014 IBJJF New York Spring Open.
Results for the day:
Michelle Welti took double gold, winning both her weight class and the open division. She had a total of 4 matches, 2 won by submissions and 2 by points.
Lindsey Sisack took gold as well. She executed her game plan and defeated her opponent 6-0!
Chris Wilson also took gold in his division. Submitting his first opponent and outscoring his second 9-0.
Ricardo Mungia fought very well, nearly passing his opponent’s guard multiple times, racking up 5 advantages, but was swept in last 30 sec of the match. Although he lost, he looked great out there.
Overall, Team Dave Trader brought home 4 gold medals! Excellent job team! Look for these competitors, and others, to compete again on July 19, 2014 in the New York Summer Open!
