Jiu-Jitsu Team competes at Copa Nova Grappling Championships

The Jiu-Jitsu team returned to the Copa Nova Grappling Championships in Ashburn, Va on October 9th.

Josh “Mammoth” Wehrmann dominated each of his divisions – winning every match by submission – taking 1st place in the Men’s White Belt Super Heavyweight and Men’s White Belt Absolute divisions.

Andrew “Youtube” Babeu delivered a strong performance despite competing in the adult division for the first time just days after his 17th birthday. Andrew brought home a trio of medals, placing 3rd in the Men’s No-Gi Beginner Light Heavywieght division, 2nd in the Men’s No-Gi Beginner Absolute division, and 3rd in the Men’s White Belt Light Heavyweight division.

Arturo Ayala fought well in his first tournament losing a tough semifinal, but finishing up with a strong win to take home 3rd place in the Men’s White Belt Featherweight division.

We expect to see more dominating performances from this group in the future.

We also had a strong performance by our kid’s Jiu-Jitsu team.

Randy West took home a 1st place medal in his very first tournament.

Abby Ayala dominated her semifinal opponent, but had to settle for 2nd place after a tough match with her teammate Randy.

Koen Gorham took home 2nd place in his no-gi division.

Keegan Daley gave his best effort taking 3rd place in his division.

Brendan Finn competed in his first tournament and finished just out of the medals taking 4th place in his division.

David Ayala also competed in his first tournament and finished in fourth place losing a well fought third place match.

Chris Taylor and Jayden Lundy, each competing in their first tournament, were matched against much more experienced opponents. Both Chris and Jayden fought very well and we expect to see them come back with strong performances at their next competitions.

Congratulations, once again, to those who competed and a special thanks to all those who came out to support the team.
